Three Essential Tips For New Campers

Once you have the basic equipment, camping provides a much less expensive holiday option, especially in today’s economic climate. In this article I aim to cover three of the main basic aspects you need to think about when planning your camping first camping trip. By the end of the article I hope you’ll have a better feel for what you need to consider.

Sleeping – During daylight hours, and depending on the type of camping trip you embark on, you might find yourself on the beach, walking the coast or simply relaxing outside your tent with a good book. But when the sunsets your mind will turn to your sleeping arrangements. In the home we have mattresses, linens and pillows to make our nights comfortable. When camping you can replace these with either a camp bed or mat, sleeping bags and inflatable pillows which can be just as comfortable. Use as much or as little luxury as you want on your camping trips.

Cooking – There’s nothing I enjoy more than collecting firewood and making a nice open fire to use for cooking. However, this can’t always be achieved. For example, if you’re staying on a camp site rules and restrictions, as well as health and safety, might disallow the use of open fires. But if you’re wild camping you can usually do this if you are concious of the environment around you, clearing up your mess and of course making sure you aren’t at risk of setting fire to anything or anyone. If open fires aren’t your thing consider a gas camping stove or similar.

General Attire – Unless you’re glamping you want to make sure you wear clothes that are comfortable and durable. Depending on where you live in the world you’ll want to make sure you bear in mind the climate so wear clothes that keep you warm, clothes that keep you cool etc. Hiking boots are a good idea if you plan on doing a lot of trail walking.

Bathroom – If you are camping on a camp site toilets, showers and dish washing facilities are usually provided. You’ll have to walk to get to them and I don’t recommend pitching up next to one, either, as they can get quite noisy during busy periods. If you’re wild camping there are plenty of chemical toilets available cost depending on your budget and requirements.
